Alan McKinnon – Professor of Logistics

25 October 2019

BVL International Supply Chain Conference

On the 25 October I was one of the speakers at the 36th BVL International Supply Chain Conference in Berlin, delivering a presentation about the logistics of Brexit during a session on geopolitical scenarios for global supply chains.   I built the presentation around what I regard as five myths, all of which have important implications for logistics and supply chain management.  In the course of the presentation I discussed the potential supply chain disruptions on the Island of Ireland and on the Dover-Calais route, particularly if the UK were to leave the EU without a Brexit deal.   I also examined company contingency plans for a ‘no-deal’ and the prospects of Brexit-related stockpiling triggering  a macro-level bullwhip effect.
