Alan McKinnon – Professor of Logistics

General logistics / supply chain management

This section contains references to papers, reports, book chapters and other resources on several aspects of logistics and supply chain management. They have been divided into five sub-sections.

The first takes a general overview of the design and management of logistics systems and supply chains, both cross-sectorally and in specific industries.

The second focuses on the outsourcing of logistical activities to specialist providers, so-called ‘logistics service providers’.

The outputs in the third sub-section consider the vulnerability of supply chains and what can be done to minimise risk exposure and increase resilience.

The papers and presentations in the fourth section express concern about the effects of the growing academic obsession with journal rankings on the development of logistics research.

The final sub-section comprises publications on logistics employment particularly the shortage of employees with the necessary logistics skills.
